Hi

We've just had the plasterer in and the wooden floor is thick with plaster and plaster dust. I'm dreading the through of trying to get a mop over it to get it clean, does anyone have any better techniques. We haven't much time as we've yet to paint the two rooms and we need it done by Xmas, so quick but effective techniques would be the best.

Thanks

1st, paint spatters will come off your floor alot easier if you leave the dust til after you paint(scrape off the big chunks so they dont get ground to smitherines. just sweep with a good stiff bristle brush and vacuum up finish with a scrub, mop and wax and you're good as new. I prefer muphys oil soap as it will condition the wood without needing a rinse.
If it really is thick all over I suggest you use a sweeping compound (not kitty litter) so that you dont raise the dust into every other room trying to get it up.
I wish I could say click your red ruby slippers and send you home, but I just am not the wizard.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago, basically I brushed it a few times then went over it with the hoover (after I had brushed it a lot to prevent my hoover packing up).

Then on my hands and knees I went over the floor with a damp cloth and some flash wooden floor cleaner.

A good vacuum to begin with and then a warm damp cloth to finish off, scrapping any lumps off with a piece of thin wood or knife edge. Making the floor too wet will cause your boards to bow.

Scrape up and loosen any large pieces and just mop and bucket is the best way. Not a difficult job.

try vinegar first, then go over it with a normal wooden floor cleaner (to get rid of the smell).
