I'm looking for ideas for my IE event in about a month. I'm considering monologues from Wuthering Heights, but I'm looking for any single person script that will make the audience cry. Or atleast, make me cry. (:

Oleanna is a good play to look for material, I would also suggest Arther Miller, although with eaither of these you'll need to edit them to suit the time restrictions and make them relelvent. good luck on you IE!

Sam Becket's play "Krapp's Last Tape." for a man

for a woman, Mary's last monologue in "O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night."

Try the "Poor yorick" monologue from Hamlet. Kenneth Branagh did it so well in the film version that I nearly cried. I would only attempt this if you are an excellent actor though.

Men - the "No, Willy, nobody's hanging himself!" monologue from "Death of a Salesmen"

Women - the monologue about her mother in "To Gillian on her 37th Birthday"

I don't know about making you cry, but Sophocles' Oedipus the King is tragic & dramatic...
