well after watching Joie convince Phoebe in Friends that there are no selfless acts, I'm also convinced that there are no selfless acts, -he made it very clear.

I think that there is such a thing and I think we are all "capable". What puts a kink in the armor is that most of us are to concerned with ourselves to really do something "selfless" on a continual basis. I think we can all muster up a selfless act on occassion but it's truly a sign of the times. In the USA, we are free to do as we wish and with practically every thing we see, read or hear is about how to "make it rich, buy the Lexus, live high on the hog (whatever that used to mean), doing things for others without concern for how it fits into our own best interest is a rare, rare thing indeed but not extinct. Just take a look at Mother Theresa's "Works of Love are Works of Peace". Yes, she was Mother Theresa but she was real AND human.

Sure. When I gave the homeless guy money, with no chance or care of ever getting anything in return, that was a selfless act.
