a water heater is an electrical appliance and therefore can be using more electricty than a different one. this is just like when you go to Sears and see all the different refridgerators or washing machines or whatever and they have the electric usage on them.

If your water is hot enough as it is and you don't run out of hot water or you don't mind these things and you would rather have a lower electricity bill then you turn the water heater down. There should be a covered area on the side of the heater somewhere that can be moved(it may have foam or insulation under it) and inside there is a temperature nozzle that you just have to turn down(usually with a flathead screwdriver).

It depends on the amount of water your heating,as compared to your neighbours, obiouviosly the more you heat ....the more it costs?...................if you find that your water usage is roughly the same....i would suggest installing a new unit that would require less energy to heat the same amount of water.
