Both parents determine the offspring's eye color. To be more specific, when their genes are combined, the percentages of the genotypes are what really count. Some genes are dominant and some are recessive.

I believe it is something to do with dominant genes. I don't really know though. I am also very interested in learning this also. All my life I have heard this story told at many different gatherings...

My great-great-grandparents (1 had blue eyes & 1 had brown eyes) had 11 children. 1/2 of them had brown eyes and the other 1/2 had blue eyes. Which means 1 of their children had 1 blue eye and 1 brown eye.

This is a true story and it is the reason I am so interested in learning how an offsprings eye color is determined.

I am sorry I can't answer your question. I just wanted to share this with you since you brought up such a great question that I myself am interested in learning more about. Your question is great and I thank you for asking it!

The dominant gene will usually determine eye color. Brown for instance will usually win over blue eyes since brown is dominant and blue is recessive. However, genetics are a funny thing and it isn't always 100%. I have brown eyes and so does everyone in my immediate family. I married a man with blue eyes....same goes for his family. However, we have 2 children together and they both have blue. There is no 100% way to determine something as eye color. It is all up to genetics and Mother Nature.

Its not really dependent on which parent but more about which parent has the dominant gene. Brown eyes are the dominant trait. But if a person has brown eyes but has a parent with blue or green eyes there is still a chance that the child will have blue or green eyes if the other parent has them or a similar makeup.

Depends on which parent has the genetically dominant eye color. Example=if you mom has brown eyes and your dad has green eyes, since brown is the genetically dominant color 3 out of every 4 children will be passed on brown eyes and 1 will get green, but it is also possible that 3 may get green eyes and 1 will get brown but the chances of this is much rarer but genetically possible. Also there may be genetic hybrids, because my mom has dark brown eyes and my dad has blue and I got brown and green eyes.

Both or One of them or Neither......The fact is it does depend on the genetic architecture more. Practically speaking, i have friends with blue eyes with neither of the parents having it and friends with both the parents having blue eyes but he having brown eyes. It more depends on the unexplained factors of the genetic structure. For us Normal people, it all depends on fate/luck and we have to happy with what we have.

its not about which parent.. coz some children have the same eye colour as their mom, and some as their dad..
what happens is DNA decides on that.. it has something to do with dominiant and recessive genes... look for some general info on DNA in biology.. this is all i remember, hope it helps!

it must be more advantageous probably that the toddlers ought to have brown eyes, yet then in case you both have some eco-friendly eye genes then that ought to also be probably - i advise you in elementary words wait and word! ;)
