Aside from having a spectacular handle, DixieNormus had a good answer.

Non-western civilization on the whole is very distinguished in its political repression, poverty, disease, poor education and violence.

Given that Western Civilization has great healthcare, education, economies, freedom and a very high standard of living, I'm going to go ahead and say that we are on to something.

I'll never understand the people who want to find something wrong with the West. If we aren't destroying the world through over-population, we are oppressing people in a capitalist system. Then, once it becomes apparent that the Eastern world was the oppressive one, we were destroying the planet with aersol sprays. First our irresponsibility was causing global cooling. Then global warming. Then global cooling. Now we're back to global warming. I know that Western civilization isn't perfect, but I just don't understand the people who try so hard to find a reason to take down western civilization.

I don't think a lot of people are wishing that, but I would admit that some people in the West are a bit prone to pull this card out if faced with questions. Why can't we understand that we have done some great things but also there is a lot to improve on, we are not perfect. But when many are told this they feel its easier to point out the communists, or the Muslims, or the democrats or anyone else they can and blame them for trying to bring down this civilization.

If you research history, civilizations fall when they are too concerned about their glorious history and perfect present, so if we don't try to improve we will be the ones that are bringing this civilization down.

Yes, all of the dictators and despots enslaving people and watching them starve. Think about it. The US produces about one half of the worlds food. I guess you love to see people starving to death. Regardless of your political view, Western Civilization has shared untold resources with the rest of the world. If that is gone then where will you turn. The biggest problem I see is that Western Civilization has given too freely and those envious want more, more free food, more free money more more more. I think Western Civilization should stop giving anything since the rest of the world finds us despicable and let them fend for themselves.

If there was a better alternative I might join you on your knees, but there isn't. Western civilisation, like democracy, isn't perfect but it's the best we have. It’s the only self-renewing civilisation that has ever existed, constantly growing and changing around the core values of personal freedom, equality under the law and democracy. civilisations of the past have always eventually failed because of their autocratic and conservative natures, their failure to innovate and to adapt to a challenge because power was vested in a small group of people or monolithic institutions who often view any change with suspicion and see it as a threat to their power and these attitudes permeated their whole civilisation and shaped the world view of its people. Egyptian civilisation failed because it did not change, Chinese civilisation, magnificent as it was, failed because Confucianism created a hierarchical and changeless society. Islamic civilisation also failed because once it had exhausted science and philosophy of Greece and Rome, its innate authoritarianism and conservatism failed to come up with any answers to the growing power of their European neighbours. Even today, other civilisations only seem to prosper because they have taken on elements of western civilisation, but because they have only taken the elements that appeal to the conservative elites, they too will ultimately fail. Only civilisations that can innovate adapt and change will survive. And those characteristics are dependent on the full participation and freedom of all members of that civilisation, there must be a balance between the stability of conservatism and the creativeness of liberalism. The flame of western civilisation was lit in Athens 2,600 years ago, it may have guttered and been damped over time but it is burning strong now. It will survive because it will change and improve over time. No other civilisation can do this. It can do this because its essence ultimately the diversity and freedom of its peoples, not the crushing oppression of an elite or dogmatic ideology

I pray every day for the downfall of Islam. Nothing terribly wrong with the religion (except Jihad), but some of the people who follow it are not refined or peace loving. We are presently at war with Islam whether you may acknowledge it or not. We did not start this war but we will surely finish it. I am not overwhelmingly happy about my point of view but judging from what I see emanating from Iran and Syria I cannot accept any other at this time.

If they are, then Western Civilization dearly prays they immigrate to another civilization where they would obviously be much happier. Unless they are lazy and parasitic that is, in which case, they will continue to leech off the hand that feed them.
