Contact the company and ask if they have an express date for a fee. If not, you can either tell your friend that you ordered her gift online and it won't arrive until after XMAS or your could cancel your order and go out and get her something else.

Go to the dollar store and buy some attractive little item. And then cut out a picture of the item you've ordered for your friend. Glue this cut out picture on another sheet of colored paper. Write under it, "Coming your way, December 27th!"
Wrap the two together, and give it to your friend on Christmas. You know, it's possible, the real item might arrive on time, too.

Too late, you could try to call the company and change the delivery to express, but I doubt they can help. It never hurts to try.. Tell your friend right away what happened, and that the gift is coming, and when, and why.
If you wish, find or make a little inexpensive [not more than a couple bucks] gift and wrap it for her to open on Christmas. But you do not have to. Some homemade cookies or candy, one of those little sample boxes of candy, a inexpensive mug with a couple packets of cocoa mix in it[think Wal-mart cheap] would do just fine. But I do not think you would have to, it just says, 'sorry, I screwed up, but you are a really good friend who understands." Merry Christmas, you are very thoughtful to want to try and make it right!

It's too late to speed up the delivery but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
MOST items arrive days earlier than they say they will. I know. I've been ordering things from catalogues for 10 years.
I'll bet anything that it arrives in time or before Christmas.

A) dodge the friend until the package comes
B) wrap the gift all crazzy Like put it in about 3000 boxes that get smaller and smaller until she comes to your note with part of the order on the note...
C) Tap the note to a block of wood... wrap the block of wood in a box with wrapping paper (the block of wood is to make it seem heavey)

Maybe call up the company and talk to someone, perhaps you can change the shipping to overnight or something. Call soon tho!!
If you cant fix it, maybe you can buy something little, just to have *something* to give *on* christmas, and let you friend know that you have something else coming in for them.
Good luck!!
