Being the clueless bachelor that I am, I accidentally put a pair of expensive wool suit slacks into the washing machine with a load of clothes. It didn't go through the whole wash cycle...I realized my mistake and took the slacks out about halfway into the cycle. I rinsed them off, rolled them in a towel, then hung them to dry.

Are these slacks ruined? I will have them dry cleaned and pressed, but I think they might have shrunk or deformed due to being immersed in warm water. They fit perfectly prior to my mistake and are tight now, but this could be because they're wrinkled and need pressing, which hopefully will bring them back to their original size. Has anyone else done this?

Thanks.

I hate to say it but they are most likely ruined. They will probably be to short but depending on the hem size you may be able to let it down if there relatively new.

Good grief. That ain't good. I'd call a dry cleaners and get their ideas and then I would call maybe the manufacturer or else someone that has a lot to do with wool. Maybe if you wet them in cold water and put them on one of those hangers that grasps the cuff and maybe put a weight on the waist band and let them dry that way. I know what you mean, one of my very most favorite pair of slacks got an iron left on them when it was hot and it was into the trash. God, I got soooooo mad.

This sounds icky. Put them on while they are damp and you may be able to stretch them back out. I have done that with jeans with success. With my husband's pants, we have made the same mistake. I reshaped them and hung them by the hem to dry. Thankfully, my husband was still able to wear them and they were not "high water" pants. I wish you good luck. Perhaps the dry cleaner will have a good suggestion.

Send them to the cleaners and see if they can press them so they will look good again. The damage may not be too much but you are really fortunate you didn't throw them in the dryer. Your dog could wear them then. Also, if the water was cool the shrinkage probably won't be too bad.

If I had done that, I would feel obligated to replace it. On the other hand, if I were the one who had left my own iPhone in my pocket, I would assume at least half the responsibility for the cost of replacing it. But before you do that, try what another person suggested, and dry your phone out in a bag of rice, as I have seen that work a few times.

Probably ruined, sorry! Wool has fibers that with wetness and pressure (agitation) actually fuse together and become permanently changed.

most likely they have shrunk and you won't be able to wear them.
