I realize that all proud fish owners (myself included) can't resist any opportunity to brag about our tanks and whats in them. I'm just curious about what great combinations of fish you guys have in your community tanks and what has worked well for you. (for my future reference)
Whats in my tank:
-13 Lamp-eyed killifishes
-8 Golden Scissortail rasboras
-2 Siamese Algae Eaters
-2 Pearl gouramies
-6 Peppered corydoras
-1 Chocolate plecostomus
-1 Clown plecostomus

I've got a black water tank of 65 gallons with peat filtration.
I'm keen on plants and the tank has
3 Amazon Swords
3 Crypts
5 Lobelias
2 Vallisnerias
I started off with:
No. Common NameLength
6xSerpea Tetras - 1.75
6xBlack Widows - 2.4
6xPeppered Catfish - 2.75
12xNeon Tetras - 1.5
The idea being that when the fish matured I'd have about 60 inches of fish in the tank. There are a lot of power failures where I live and if I overstock the tank the fish would probably die during a power failure
I'm down to 10 neon tetras after 6 weeks and two of the black widows have doubled in size. I should have got more mature neons to start with.
The serpea black widow combo works well and they are happy to shoal together. The peppered catfish are going a great job of sucking up algae.

I have a 2.5 gallon with a few Endler's Live bearers in it (1 adult, 2 adolescent, 2 fry) and at least 3 cherry red shrimp (and theoretically a lot of small ones as my female just laid eggs.. we'll see how many survive with the Endler's).
My roommate also has a 10 gallon with Endler's, an oto, some amano shrimp, and a mollie, as well as a 20 gallon with otos, amano shrimp and a breeding colony of cherry reds.
We also have a five and half with 2 killie fish (though the female appears to be dying from swim bladder disease) and a 2.5 with a baby killie in it.
They all seem to be working fairly well, though the 10 sometimes has algae problems. We seem to have fixed this by moving it away from the window and moving a large piece of driftwood to the 20 gallon.

Nice combine. I use to have a 75 gallons tank. Those are what I had:
-2 Tin Foil barbs
-6 tiger barbs
-African butterfly fish
-4 khuli eel (rarely see them so probably lose one or two)
-2 weather loach
-3 bala sharks
-2 silver dollars
-2 siamese Alage eater
-1 bumblee cat fish
-1 blue Gourmai
-1 bushy nose pleco
-1 electric yellow cichild
Yes it seems like a lot but I know exactly what I was doing. some stay at lower, some stay at middle, and few stay at top. Plus there was ton of places to hide. I had them for 3 years then have to move so I gotta get rid of them :-(

My 55 gallon tank is currently empty, but it will soon be the home to 2-3 fancy goldfish.
My 20 gallon tank is the home to a few guppies, three swordtails, and some cory catfish.
I have a 5 gallon with a betta and three cories.
Several 2-4 gallon tanks with one betta each.
One 10 gallon tank with 6 female bettas.

This is a tough one since it is very important to establish the SIZE of the tank. Depending on the size is the AMOUNT of fish you can have. If you tell me you have all this fish in a 10 gallon tank then it is heavily populated. I have in my 40 gallon tank a gray surgeon fish, a tomato fish, a French Angel and a Fantasy crab. Have had them for 7 years now and are very happy.

Darius is inaccurate about tank length. a ten gallon tank will be reliable adequate for your 5 guppies and perchance the tetras. To make your fish wellbeing and stay properly i'd not placed that many fish in some thing a lot less then a 40 gallon tank. I actually have 3 mollies, a million guppy, 4 neon tetras, 2 snails, a million cory cat, and a million bamboo shrimp in a 20 gallon tank and that i will not placed some thing else in it. desire this helps.
