It's too late. United States already has a national 'debt' in the trillion dollars.
And Im guessing noone can mitigate it because living in acquisitiveness is such orthodox in people nowadays that it seems nothing can stop the increase of this national debt.

Debt markets will do thier thing with US dollars, and hope the dollar becomes worthless than we can export goods, and reduce the insane comsumption of useless electronics that give marginal joy after fiddling with it for 20 mintues. Also, a cheaper dollars provides jobs to export goodies???

Of course raising taxes will slow the economy, slowing job growth, lowering taxes collected and thereby raising the defecit again. Then, with luck, we elect someone who will lower taxes, increase military spending, cut welfare benefits and spending, increase job growth and tax revenue, lower the defecit until we vote another Hiliary in again.
