Gift certificate to Sears for Craftsman tools for the mechancial guy.
Gift Certificate to Lowe's for Dewalt for construction guy.
Get them something that represents their sports team or sport with a sweater, button down shirt, or combo pack of t-shirts, hats, etc...
If they don't have an electric Razor, than try that.
Just remember unless they tell you the exact tool, don't ever buy their tools for them.
Please stay away from jewelry or cologne, he would appreciate my suggestions better, been married and these were always crowd pleasers with my father-in-laws, my dads, my brother-in-laws, and Uncles.
