As a means of checking population growth, would it be ethical for the government of a country to offer its population economic incentives for voluntary sterilization?

I don't know about the government but in Baltimore a non-profit organization has been advertising that they will pay drug addicts $300 dollars to be sterilized.

If a mother tests positive for drugs while giving birth the state automatically takes custody of their child until a relative comes forward. If no family steps forward the baby enters fostercare.

As a result the Baltimore City foster care system is flooded with drug exposed newborns that suffer from a variety of health problems and often grow up to suffer from various learning disabilities. Baltimore also has a shortage of foster parents willing to care for these children.

Sterilization for cash would greatly reduce this problem. I see no reason why it should be considered unethical. In fact I know some cases where it should have been court ordered!

Currently there is a child tax credit, so you make more money come tax season if you HAVE kids. There is no population problem in the US, if anything we are greatly lagging from the rest of the world, mainly China.

The government would never approve this measure. I do not believe it would be ethical either, because you would get a lot of college students doing this for money, and later in life when they decide they want kids, they will be out of luck.

This could also mean that the Rich will be able to get children but the poor won't since they often face financial difficulties more often. Therefore, you will have more elite babies and less poor people babies. This is necessarily not a good thing. Secondly, we need population to sustain economic growth unless we would fall behind.

no way
the major reason being that the poorer citizens would be inticized to go through with this, due to their lack of money, and will to survive.
They would surely regret this later, well atleast some of them.

Imagine young guys who want to do anything but settle down, they go through this for the cash, but when they get married ten years down the track they cannot have the children that they now want.

Theres just far to many issues involved,
