Depends on what type of social work you want to do...If you want to work child protective services, food stamps or medicare/medicaid eligibility at a DSS, then a bachelors is enough...but if you want to do private one on one clinical therapy, you need at least a masters, if not a Ph.D....also need a master's or Ph.D. to teach...

You need to return to school. What you get out of it is much more than an education. Why not call and make an appointment with a counselor. They can give you some good guidance and get you on the proper path. And if one counselor isn't helpful (they are so overworked), make an appointment with another and talk to that person. A good counselor will have the right answers. Good luck and don't let anyone stop you from returning to school. You will like where you are in life so much more when you are finished and you can parlay an education into a much better life. If social worker doesn't work, then find something that is close. Social work is hard, thankless work with little pay but you can make a difference in people's lives. There are many professions that are that line. A career that gives back to the community certainly shows that you have changed and now want to move on and have a better life.

Hey. You need not require any Degree to become a Social Worker. But you require a very kind heart to understand the problems of people and capacity to hardwork and give more efforts to solve the same. Also not to publish your success in it. Its a very hard achievement to become a TRUE Social Worker.

No you may be able to get the title of social worker in a number of state agency jobs (mostly child welfare). However, to join the profession of social work you will need at least a BSW. And to truely be able to practice autonomously as a social worker you will need and MSW.
