How do the focal lengths for the two sides of a lens compare??

They are the same. If you stick a lens in a collimated beam of light then measure the distance from the 'centre' of the lens to the point where the colour you are interested in focuses then do it again from the other side, the two distances are the same, if they are slightly different you adjust where you think the centre is.
