My knees get that way from all the years of intense sports and injuries. I have no idea but it could jus be stiff joints..try getting a pai of lined and warm gloves, if you crak your knuckles you should stop. It could be signs of arthritis
good luck...
You could also have Raynaud's Syndrome.
This is a condition in which the smallest arteries that bring blood to the fingers or toes constrict (go into spasm) when exposed to cold or from an emotional upset. Smoking cigarettes or working with vibrating machinery also can cause these episodes. The small veins are usually open, so the blood drains out of the capillaries. The result is that the fingers or toes become pale, cold and numb. If there's a spasm in the small veins and blood is trapped in the capillaries, the fingers or toes turn blue as the blood loses its oxygen.

***Go to your doctor and get it checked out is the best bet.

Are you talking about the bones or the skin itself?
People are telling you use lotion but I think you're talking about the knuckle bones and joints themselves. I get it more in my mid-back than in my knuckles, but yeah, the areas I crack normally start aching a bit.
22 and feel like i'm 50 when that happens.

They peel. Knuckles bend. This exposes them to oxygen which is a highly reactive substance. Cracking comes from pressure differentials. Apply creams.

you should wipe your hands after washing them, they have to be dry. Use some good hand lotion.
My knuckles don't crack.

YEAH they do, and even more so when we get older too...
but they sell those wonderful little 'warmers' at sporting goods stores and walmart; they are small and insert in gloves to keep hands warm....
LOVE 'em :)
