The first commercial U.S. release of DVDs consisted of a selection of four IMAX films. Tropical Rainforest, Antarctica, Africa, and, interestingly, Animation Greats. However, the first film ever recorded on a DVD was Twister, which was a proof-of-concept test of both the recording technology and the 2.1 digital sound format.

The first movie I saw on DVD was "Streetcar named Desire", it came with a laptop to show how DVD quality looked. The first LaserDisc I noticed was Star Trek the movie.

well since dvd started out as laser disc (a very large dvd),
that would go back to the 80s..
there were tons of movies under that time.
Star Wars, Dragon's Lair, and much more.
