What is the difference between Yahoo and Google? I know google is a search engine, is Yahoo the same? or what?

Google is much more than a search engine now, but it's primarily what they're known for. They've acquired Keyhole and turned it into Google Earth, which utilizes satellites and allows you to see aerial views of practically anywhere on earth. They also have Gmail now, which is an email service that provides over 2 gigs of space to store mail. Gmail also has a chatting system built in now, so you can chat live with your contacts. Google Talk allows you to chat by text or headset/mic.
Yahoo was *first* known for a search engine, and then became known for other things. Like being a web portal, having one of the best instant messengers (allowed you to talk by voice/webcam before many other IM applications except NetMeeting or Skype), free email services.
Both are huge companies now, it would take awhile to list all they have and have done. Try visiting the sources for more information.

Basically, Google is mainly a search engine. While Yahoo is a Portal that offers many other services besides searching.

google is a search engine that has now expanded to offer email and other services, whereas yahoo incorporates many other things like mail,news, games, this question and answer and of course, a search engine.

yahoo is a search engine with more facilities and fun stuff than google. Its email has more features than google.

google began as a search engine but has expanded into things such as email, video, and shopping (froogle).
yahoo! consists of much more features than google such as games, sports, and news.
Both are extremely popular search engines, but google is better for searching, email....and yahoo! is better for games, sports, and news amoung other things.

The "non-technical" answer would be - google has better holiday themes that they decorate the google sign with
