What modern event can be related to tarring and feathering?

I would pick a media driven political attack as the subject of this essay. Remember, the purpose of a tar and feather attack is more than just punishment, although that does play a role. Tar and feathering is meant to destroy the individual's credibility and respect, and is a symbol that the subject maintains oppositional political thinking. For example, many who were given this special attack were supporters of the British in the pre Revolutionary War period.

So if the purpose is to punish and destroy credibility, then the media or politics is your place to start. Find any attack, Far left vs. far right, and start making similarities in the approach of antagonism.
