What my husband and I do is put away $100-$500 away in our savings each month and treat it like it's a bill that has to be paid. Try eating in more instead of eating out, that was where most our money went. And keep tabs of what you spend your money on and see if it was unneccesary spending or not. Try to cut things that you don't need out.

Easy as can be. You just need to change your habits a little. You need to start saving a percentage of your income with every check. At first it'll seem impossible but it's really not. Ten percent should do it. In no time you'll have a tidy nest egg. After a year or so it will be second nature. Remember something. The money you are saving has a purpose. A very important purpose. To make you financially independant! Not for cars, trips, jewelery or anything else! This is pretty much the only way a working person can get ahead and stay ahead. Read up on ways to save. They're out there. You have your way. If you do it you'll be glad you did. If you don't there's no one to blame but yourself.

There's a women's site dedicated to this very predicament. There's tips on ways to downsize and save money each month. There's also forums where you talk and get support. Topics of discussion are the cold hard truth and it really wakes you up when you first visit it. Saving and spending less is a lot like dieting-there are no magic cures-just hard work and persistence.

Hope this helps and offers inspiration!

Oh yeah, this a free website-you don't pay for it, don't give credit info or anything stupid like that- frugal people wouldn't stand to pay to visit a website!

Review your last 3 months bank statements and see where you need to reduce spending. You have to stick to this commitment, both of you. Tell yourself that if something is not absolutely necessary, then do not purchase it. If you are in a store, do not stand and debate about purchasing something. You need to get what is absolutely necessary and get out of the store. Do not plan any shopping trips when you are off work. Instead plan to go for a walk or visit family and friends.

I go on a spending fast. Last year I did not purchase shoes, clothes, jewerly or purses for 3 months. In 2007, I plan to do the same thing.

If you are hanging around spenders, find new people to hang with that has a successful saving money plan in place. They will have a positive effect on your goal.

Instead of purchasing brand new clothes, visit the consigned and goodwill stores. Today I purchased 3 blazers, 4 skirts, 3 pair of pants and 1 embellish jacket all for $45.00. I took my Mother-in-law along to get her senior citizen10% discount. The items were all name brand; such as, Express, Casual Corner, Talbots, and Sag Harbour. One skirt still had the original price tag on it for $88. All items in the Goodwill are not used. You can dry clean them with Dryel for a fraction of the cost that professional dry cleaners charge. Purchase items that can be mixed and matched and that will not go out of style to quickly if being in style is important to you and your spouse.

Always see what is in the fridge to prepare for your meals before heading out to restaurants. Sometimes it is cheaper to eat out. You have to just way what is needed to fix your meals at home verses restaurants. For example, to fix hamburgers at home, you will need hamburger meat, buns, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mayo, mustard and ketchup. If these items are not in your fridge and you do not use them often, it would be more practical and economical to go purchase burgers off McDonald's $1 menu.

Have a yard sale; it takes a little work, but it will bring in immediate money. Put the proceeds in a savings account and pretend like it is not there. Continue to find ideas to generate more income to add to this account. You might want to consider a new employer with a higher salary offer. But if you land the higher paying job, do not spend more money.

I hope this helps and good luck with your new saving habits. I have faith in you that you can do it.

Check out about.com. They have a couple good columnists on being thrifty.

Track your spending to see where it is going, and make a budget. Really try to stick to it. And I agree with the first comment, pay yourselves first. Always try to put 2-5% of your money away for emergencies.

Good luck!!

Don't eat out.
save your change in a jar.
walk as much as you can to save on gas.

For me and my fiance, it was the eating out thing that helped us out the most. you never realize it, but it does add up fast!
hope i helped:)
