Disk formatting is the process of preparing a hard disk or other storage medium for use by an operating system.
When you reformat your hardive you are erasing the contents. Sometimes people reformat because they have gotten a serious virus or swamped by spyware ( IMO spyware = virus ) and have used all methods and resources to erradicate them and can't, Another reason is to restore the computer to its original state when first made.
Companies often use the reformat process to wipe drives clean when employees have terminated their employment, so that the computer can be used again by another employee, also they reformat to the original state of the computer when it is time to return the computers under some lease agreements.

To re-format your hard disk drive would be to erase all data on the disk and restore the drive to its original state (for the most part). You can do this if you want to use a hard drive from another persons' computer to use on yours or if you just want to start your computer over from scratch. You'll have to install an operating system to get the computer working again.

Normally you would never want to this because it erases everything stored on your hard disk and you won't be able to use the computer any more. Basically, only a repair person is likely to do this and not even they would unless it was a really odd situation.

you should use the OS CD, yet not the different discs as they're certain to HP's settings. only insert the CD and boot the computer. If the alternative does not come as a lot as boot from disc (press any key if it comes up), then restart your pc and through the BIOS setup hit F8. this can strengthen initiate ideas and decide boot from CD. this can probably strengthen residing house windows setup. follow the training from there, yet only be confident you've a valid product key previously you wipe your stress.

when you format you wipe everything off your hard drive..then you have to reload the operating system (windows),reload all drivers and all software....just make sure you back up all your data (documents, pics and music etc) before you hit that format button or you will lose it all!
