Take the car to the dealer and make sure they fix it. The oil light is there as a warning. It comes on when the computer senses your oil pressure is low. It could be a real problem and low oil pressure can destroy your engine. If it is only a wiring problem, then they should be able to repair it quickly, but if there is an oil pressure problem, they will probably need to pull the engine! Not good!!!
Good luck!

I am not a BMW tech but I am a Voluteer Fireman and we had a call for a Car fire this morning for this very same car ! All of the wiring under the driver side dash panel caught fire and burned out the dash, dripping rubber and plastic all over the leather seats and totally destorying this beautiful car with smoke damage. Of course we tried to wet as little as possible but we did have to soak the dash down all the way across to make sure no fire remained for re-kindle. Good Luck with yours

Well if you read up on reports and feedback with automobiles before purchasing you would have seen that BMWs are ranked some of the worst cars in electrical system reliability. Right about where VW , Mercedes are. Should have bought an Acura, Lexus, or Infiniti.
I have yet to meet someone who has not had some minor issue with their german car in relation to electrical. Simple reason for this. The Germans made cars for drivers, all those little amenities and buttons use similar software. Most of the german car companies purchased their components from the same people, therefore have the same cruddy reliability and longevity that you find in Japanese luxury cars.
Take my gf's Audi she used to have, where she would put the car on, and turn the headlights on, but no headlights, yet her wipers would start up, her AC would start blowing and the engine light flickered.

When you say oil light do you mean the little yellow/red oil can up by your blinker lights? The oil service is done with your mileage counter when you first turn the key on. If it is the yellow/red oil can coming on, that means your oil is low. Then check your oil. If full the sensor is bad. BMW has had some oil level sensor prematurely going bad and that was the complaint that the oil light would come on while driving or stopping.
