What I always do is uninstall it and reinstall it. It works perfect for me everytime. It is worth a shot instead of buying a new one.

I've heard Norton Antivirus is really good if you want all time protection. But simple free antivirus isn't so bad either. Usually businessmen use Norton and buy all the high tech antivirus software to be completely safe. However Avast is pretty good for basic protection. I use AVG Free Edition 2011 and it's also great. If you're really worried then feel free to get Norton but I think it's alright to stick to Avast.

yes. There are older version from the early 90's which didn't expire. Maybe as new as Nortons 2k. But they will not protect you from the contently updating viruses.

Sorry, you can't. Norton is a subscription service and in order to get all the latest updates you have to keep paying for them. If you are interested in free virus scanning software, check these out. I use them and they work great.

Forget about Norton, McAfee, etc. Get AVG Anti-virus FREE edition.
It works perfect, it never expires and there are updates to it all the time. www.grisoft.com
