happened to me once.

the fan on my processor was loose so every time i turned the computer on the processor would overheat and shut down. The computer would beep and not proceed with the normal setup.

I would open up the comp and make sure everything is secure.

disclaimer: do at ya own risk

Check if your power connection is okay, and then if it still makes the beeps it means that there is an error somewhere. get a computer technician to lool at it.

It seems like a bios problem. try pressing F1 or F2 button once started to enable the bios to start up by defaults. Or try using your MS DOS boot floppy.

If both did not work, try your luck by opening the CPU, and refixing the hardware i.e loose ram, vidio / sound card, etc..

It's hard to say for sure without actually looking at the computer, but it could be that your processor is overheating. Try making sure that all fans and vents are clean, and that your heatsink is making solid contact with the processor.

The manual for your computer should tell you what the long beep means.
