Internet Security Tips :
1. Antivirus/ Antispyware software:
Norton has a good Norton Internet Security package. This comes with antivirus, antispyware, and antispam software to protect your PC from unwanted viruses, emails, and spyware. Antivirus software also allows you to scan your PC whenever you want in order to check that there are no PUPs or Potentially Unwanted Programs on your PC. Most internet security suites come with personal firewalls, which are generally much stronger than the Windows firewall. Also, for genuine Windows users, there is a free antispyware/antivirus software available from the windows website. To make the most of your software, make sure you update it from time to time. This ensures that you are protected from any new viruses or other PUPs. Apart from Norton, internet security software is available from McAfee, AVG etc.
2. If you have wireless internet, make sure that you encrypt your internet account and use a password to login to prevent others from accessing the internet at your expense.
3. Do not visit untrusted sites to prevent unwanted spyware from getting into your system. This can increase your internet usage even when you are actually not using it. Do not download from unknown sites as files may be disguided PUPs.
4. Enable the phising filter which is available with the Yahoo7! Internet Explorer 7.0. This helps prevent credit card fraud etc. to some extent. To know more about internet e-commerce fraud, visit www.cisecurity.org or en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing

What You Can Do To Protect Yourself
Install Anti-Virus Software and Update it Daily! Always leave it Functioning and Enabled!
Make sure your Anti-Virus Software is set to monitor your E-Mail Program that you send and receive E-Mail with!
Do not temporarily disable your Anti-Virus Software as it is too easy to forget to re-enable it!
Always keep your computer updated with the latest Security Patches! Microsoft releases them frequently as infected E-Mail Attachments may attempt to exploit program vulnerabilities.
Do not open attachments unless you are absolutely certain of the sender and the contents!

WindowsXP - keep firewall on (Start / Settings / Control Panel / Firewall)
Do not open mail from anyone you don't know, and definitely no attachments. Be sure everyone from whom you want to hear is in your address book, then let all your friends know that if they are not in your address book, their mail will go into junk mail.
Invest in a good antivirus program.
When you boil it all down, most users get themselves into trouble by visiting questionable websites and opening e-mail and attachments from unknown individuals.

by charging more money to be online less people would be online and it would be more secure. This is the same reason why toll roads are safer then public high ways.
