Well, I have a theory about films that appear to involve Native Americans...
Back in the day...1950's and maybe the 60's...if you recall...playing cowboys and indians was essentially pitting the Good (cowboys) vs. the Bad (Indians)...
But ever since the conclusion of the Vietnam war, many movies have come out that essentially say that the Cowboy (America) is the bad guy...and the American Indian is the one being wronged....
This cinematic attitude is bourne from the fact that the overwhelming sentiment, currently, is that the US was wrong in many ways for the abuse and the degredation of the Native American.
Many movies (especially since Dancing With Wolves) have intimated that the "colonization" of the Americas was actually an unbridaled "rape" of both the land and its people....
Movies have recently taken that tack, and "The New World" is no different...
The viewer is constantly reminded that the "white man" took, again and again, that which was not his.

it was the story of pocahontas, but a "realistic" one where they never say her name, and christian bale and collin farrel never even meet each other.
Also, the action is so spaced out that this movie drags and drags. totally not worth buying, maybe worth seeing if someone else rents it.

It was pretty bad. I'm to to history movies, and I was disappointed. Its about lewis and clark. It was kind of a chic movie. pretty cheesy, esp because i'm a woman and I thought it was too much.

I saw it, I loved it. It was kind of a Pocohantas story. I"m not even into movies like that, I thought it was kind of "poetic" and romantic.
