my girlfriend is in great health condition and we both want to be sexually active, so abstinence is not an option we're both considering.

If your gf smokes birth control is really not healthy. But if she doesn't then it's a great idea. Personally I like the patch. I have tried yasmin which is a pill and I have tried the patch. What's best about the patch is that you change it once a week for 3 weeks and the pill you have to take everyday at the same time. The patch is waterproof, easy to remember and convienent. There are commercials that say the patch kills people. However, the thing is the patch does give you 60% more estrogen but when you take the pill it gets broken down in the liver and there are clot producing cells in the liver and estrogen triggers them. When you take the patch it never gets broken down because it is transdemmal. Hope that helps. Overall, have your gf talk to her doctor to find out what suits her best. I would however steer away from IUD's and NuvaRing, because they can slip out.

The patch is sketchy. There's some health concerns associated with it, and I wouldn't trust it too much, because it's rather new. Also, when I was on the patch, the damn thing kept getting stuck to stuff, like my clothes, the driver's seat in my car... etc. The pill has been proven to be one of the most effective birth control methods out there, and it's been out there for many years, so the side effects throughout life are well-documented and the science has been refined to minimize the negative side effects. If she can remember to take it at the same time every day, good for her, and she should go for it. There's also the ring, but I don't know much about that, again, because it's very new.

Honestly, why would anyone be stupid enough to push abstinence on a sexually active adult. THIS IS NOT A CHILD offer him help or SHUT UP! Anyhow, I was on the patch and it was absolutely awful - it caused horrible cramping and ovarian cysts. However, the pill I take now is wonderful - lo-ovral. it is a low-hormone birth control pill so there are no side effects! Please remember, though, that the pill must be taken AT THE SAME TIME every day and many medications will decrease the effectiveness of the pill. Be safe so you don't have a baby before you're ready.

something that does no longer contain 'consumer errors'. So delivery administration, spermicide, condoms all artwork super (BC being maximum well known of the three), yet there are blunders which you will incredibly make that rapidly drops that effectiveness dramatically. the final technique is the IUD (the two with hormones or with out). There are too many downsides to getting deproprovera for my section (the shot), yet in addition very effective. i might nevertheless advise utilising a condom to boot for STD's avoidance. If IUS or the shot are no longer strategies for you, p.c.. the pill and condoms used on an analogous time.

Def stay away from the patches. They contain a high amount of hormones that can be unhealthy for woman. I take Yaz..so far I like it. I've tried many different types of pills and this is by far working for me. There are tons and tons of different pills out there. Tell her to talk to her doc about what can work for her. Many side-effects can vary between woman..most common is light weight gain (or heavy weight gain)..breast tenderness..and possible spotting. Like I said it depends on the person. She's gonna have to try some different options to find what she prefers best for herself. Good luck and happy holidays.

I was in the same situation defenitely dont believe in abstinence and people trying to preech it to me, they need to get there own lives, anyway I've been on the pill for 2 years now and love it! Im on Orth tri-cyclin lo if anything there are more bonuses than side effects, bonuses are it helps your skin helps with menstrual cycles helps against having certain types of cancer in the future and most importantly 99% effective against pregnancy, only side effect was mild water weight gain but only temporarily and if you want the pill to be effetive it needs to be taken evrey day at the same time! highly reccommend, good luck

abstinence is a good way to start but I know that urges can't always be controlled. The best way to get educated about birth control is to go to a gynecologist or to a clinic. There are medical considerations and personal preference, etc that need to be addressed.

Hope this helps.

The Nuva Ring. It has very few side effects (typically ones headache and such) Very easy to use. Only have to worry about replacing it once a month. And you can leave it in or take it out during intercourse. The only problem with it is that not all insurance swill cover it. It costs around 40 bucks.

^^ Abstinence may never fail, but its also not a realistic approach to take. Call up or visit a planned parenthood office and they ought to be able to help ya out.
