Deciduous means "temporary" or "tending to fall off" (deriving from the Latin word decidere, to fall off).

In botany, deciduous plants, principally trees and shrubs, are those that lose all of their foliage for part of the year. This process is called abscission. The converse of deciduous is evergreen; plants which are intermediate may be called semi-deciduous. Many deciduous plants flower during the period when they are leafless, as this increases the effectiveness of pollination.

In anatomy, deciduous teeth, also called milk teeth, are those that fall out during the course of normal development. Other body parts that are shed, such as antlers, are also described as deciduous.

Deciduous means that whatever you're talking about is capable of losing part of itself. For example, deciduous trees lose their leaves in the fall, and deciduous (baby) teeth fall out when a child is about 6ish.

I'm a vet tech and we refer to puppy teeth as deciduous canines. b/c they're not permanent. It can also refer to trees like the others have said, but only those that lose all of their foliage each year.

It basically means a tree that loses its leaves especially in the autumn season! So, with reference to a human, we can call a person deciduous if he/she loses steam or enthusiasm or interest or strength to do something. In other words to say, diminishing returns has begun to take effect in the working efficiency of that person.

By the way, just out of curiosity, don't you have a good dictionary on your study/work table?

When that term is applied to trees, these trees lose their leaves in the fall, and start budding the new leaves in the spring.
