I have a job doing something mostly men do. I have been doing it for a long time and am good at it and feel like I fit in pretty well. My question is what do guys think of having a women around doing a "man's job"?

p.s. I am not manly, I still look like a girl.

Having a women around doing a "man's job" is awesome if that woman go do the job competently. Nothing else is more attractive to me about a woman who gets out there and just does it i.e. getting up from under a car after repairing it then driving it down the road

- "having a woman around" adds variety to the job because its a lot better than lookin at men all day. It can also do something to the attitudes of men (in a good way ... ask your workmates ;)

- according to study having a woman around is suppose to 'increase' productivity (i wonder why lol)

You go girl! I think that guys want to feel more manly than anything. I would continue on and remember to let the man feel like a man once in a while, you know what I mean, right?

Mmm. Some guys take it okay. Others don't. I remember the guys in our place gave me a hard time because they didn't think a woman should be there.

For example, when it was my lunch time, they chose to show a video on how to skin and butcher a deer. They didn't know that I was a nurse at one time. Blood doesn't bother me. I watched the video with them, while eating a hamburger.

Any of the stuff they did, I ignored. Eventually, they decided it wasn't any fun to try to get me upset.

It depends on the man. If he is confident and sure of his own work ability, he won't be threatened by you. The men I know complain about women in the "man's world" that can't keep up and complain a lot. If you are good at what you do they can only respect you.

My experience with women in the workplace in a similiar circumstance generally proved that most men didn't have a problem with females. But the wives and girlfriends sure did.

If you do a good job, who cares?

i think that's great, because sometimes some men's egos get too big if they think they are the only ones who can do their job. i play percussion in band, which is typically a male-dominated instrument, and a lot of the guys that are in percussion with me used to make me prove myself to them all the time because they thought they were the best percussionists in the world. and then i came along and proved that i'm just as good as they are, and now they respect me just as much as i respect them.

I have always been one to judge a person by their merits. Therefore, I don't really look at gender. What matters to me in the workplace is how well that person performs in their job, first and foremost, and if you perform up to the demands of the job, then you're a-ok with me.

There is nothing wrong with that...however, it does look odd for a guy to do a job that is usually done by a woman.......

who gives a sh*t what men think. Any man who doesn't like it is just intimidated by your ability to do the same job as he does.
