I've been watching Survivor this season and would really like to be a contestant on it...but I'm only 18 and you have to be 21. I looked up some other shows (just curious about their age restrictions) and they all seem to be 21+ as well. Why is this? There are maybe two opportunities on Survivor where alcohol are involved, if you win reward, and there's enough camera men to regulate it (drinking ages are different in different countries anyway). I can't really think of why else you would have to be 21; what else do you have to be 21 to do that you can't do when you're 18? Are there special liability issues? Does anyone know how to contact the producers or someone related to Survivor and ask them why?

If I were a wagering person, I'd put money on "alcohol" and "hotel reservations" as the limiting factors. Hotels commonly have in-room bars, and there are quite likely parties where alcohol will be served that you do NOT see as a TV viewer. Keeping everyone involved at or above the age of 21 makes policing the situation a lot simpler, and I'm certain the insurance premium is adjusted accordingly.

In most states you have to be 18 to sign a legal contract so that probably isn't it. Alcohol is very likely one factor but I think they are trying to appeal to a broader audience (like if the commercials are selling cars - no too many 18 year olds are out buying new cars ) so they likely want to appeal to a little older audience. I heard the audition process is a long one so maybe wait a year and you'll be 21 by the time it goes into production. Good luck!

I'd say one of the reasons, not the main one, is alcohol. Some of the rewards from Survivor is wine or beer, and if would really suck for someone to win a reward that they couldn't have.

the 2 reasons i come up with are, of course the booze is one, the other is that at 21 you are completely legal(no matter where in the usa you are from), and hopefully mature and responsible, and hopefully smart enough to understand the contract you sign to be in the show when picked.
