Brazilians are Latin Americans. Although they have major historical and language differences with their neighbors due to the fact that Brazil was discovered by Portugal and not Spain.

Yes, Latinos are people from Latin America, and Brazil is part of Latin America. So Brazilians are considered Latinos. Mexico, central America, parts of the Caribbean, and south America are called Latin America because they speak Latin based languages, like Spanish, Portuguese, etc.

The word Hispanic on the other hand does NOT refer to Brazilians because the word Hispanic comes from the Latin word hispania (Spain) which was originally used to refer to people from Spain or from any of the territories conquered by Spain. And since Brazil was conquered by Portugal and not Spain, that is why you can't call Brazilians Hispanic but they are considered Latinos.....but remember that the words "Hispanic" or "Latino" have to do more with cultural background not race (that's why US census does not have a category for Hispanic/Latino--because it's not considered a race). As far as race is concerned Hispanic/Latino people can be white, Indian (native American-Aztec, Inca, Maya, etc), black, or Asian. Most Hispanic/Latino people are mixed with white European blood like Spanish blood and native-American blood. In certain parts of Latin America there are a lot of "unmixed" people like in Argentina, they are mostly white Hispanics and in Peru & Bolivia there are mostly pure native-american descendents (mostly from the ancient Inca civilization). I hope this was helpful.

yes. Brazil is in Latin America. you do not necesarily have to speak spanish to be considered latino. Latin American countries can include those that speak Spanish, Portuguese or French.

ex. those from Spain are not considered latino despite popular belief, they're European.

its location and not language.

Yeah, they are technically, but they're often considered a class of their own. While people from El Salvador, Belize, Colombia, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, etc. automatically are labelled Latino, when describing someone from Brazil, people go "Wow, she's *brazilian*." the same applies to Cubans.

They're from the Americas and they speak a Latin-derived language, so yes, they can be considered "Latino."
