What happened?

If I could vaguely remember, didn't they have people in "shadows" phonetically sounding out words?

Today's kids have never been "Hooked on Phonics" or required to learn spelling words and/or their meanings. Some teachers just shove vocabulary words down students' throats and move on to the next lesson.

Unfortunately, a lot of children also sit on their "duffs" and play gory video games all night long. No brain power necessary.

There's your answer.
