Will you able to identify the sound source? If you confirm it is from your monitor, check does it still cover under the warranty.

If not, get a LCD monitor this time round.

I hope the CPU guy knows the CPU isn't in the monitor... If it's making noises (and constantly) I'd say get a new one. I know some things about computers, but not about monitors; that's more electronics kind of stuff.

it's most likely the flyback - which is the power source in the monitor - dump it buy a new one... it's not worth fixing...

i would say so its not safe throw it outside to freeze to death or what's left of it's life and buy a flat panel
