What is a good resolution to have for a monitor on a gaming PC?

And what are other good things to have for the monitor if it will be used primarily for gaming and video game designing (in college)?

1. Resolution = 1280 X1024 (For a max screen view)
2. You probably need an Ultrasharp monitor
3. A good graphics card (512MB or better) preferably one with "HD Out" and 20 pixel pipelines or better so you can see how things will look on a HDTV.
4. At least 1GB of ram (preferably 2GB)
5. At least 2.0 GHZ processor or better.
