If you're referring to artists with real good emotional souls and you're willing to dig deep, I would look into Anais Mitchell.
For some stuff that's a little easier to find, I'd go with Ane Brun, Iron and Wine, Nick Cave, Bright Eyes, JoRane, and Cat Stevens.

I always thought LeAnne Rimes- Probably Wouldn't be this way is pretty emotional
anything by Sara Mclaughen (i have no idea how to spell her last name, but she plays the piano) is good!

RNB emotional songs anything by luther vandross, or marc dorsey ( i crave is a good song) um counting crows - colorblind is amazing as well! Look up songs from cruel intentions soundtrack you should find some good songs there.
