I don't completely get what you're getting at, but...
I'm more introverted than most I know, but I open up more when I am comfortable with the people/person around. Well, at least I used to.

Usually when a situation calls for only one specific action, people show sides of them that they rarely show others.
Public speaking forces people to talk.
Taking a test forces people to be quiet.

For those introverts out there, dont feel too bad about holding ur feelings inside all the time. Extroverts get themselves in more trouble talking to much. Just focus on taking little steps to become more self-confident and extroverted. A simple unexpected hello here and there to someone would be a good start.

If by that you mean, the 'discovering' of the true you which you consider to be less appealing to others... then my answer is most people would dread the idea of revealing that 'side' to others.
Knowing that if others 'see' what their true selves are, they may risk the likeability factor, losing friendships along the way...
It's that fear of not appearing less than they really are; wanting to be perfect which is crazy and impossible.

There is good and bad in all of us. Some people have learned to overcome the bad while others struggle with it. There are people with good hearts that want to do good for others but they face the same problems and CHOOSE not to fall into that trap.
