Friendship-7 was the only space flight I know of that John Glen took.
He was passed off as the most motivated Astronaut. Motivated Astronauts fly more than once, other Mercury Astronauts did.
Why didn't he get to fly any Gemini or Apollo missions?
I know he never lost inerest, he went up in Skylab as honorary baggage.

John Glenn went into politics in 1963, so he left NASA quite soon after his Mercury flight. It's been suggested that President Kennedy or NASA management were nervous about the prospect of a national hero being killed, so they prevented him flying again - maybe that influenced his decision to resign? He went up in the shuttle in 1998 (STS-95), but he never was never part of a Skylab mission. fwiw the Sklab astronauts were:-
Pete Conrad, Paul Weitz & Joseph Kerwin
Alan Bean, Jack Lousma & Owen Garriott
Gerald Carr, William Pogue & Edward Gibson

Hmmm...
Some suggest that Glenn was prevented from flying in Gemini or Apollo missions, either by the president or by NASA on the grounds that the loss of such a national hero of such stature would jeopardize the manned space program.

Maybe...

He went up about 7 years ago, in the Discovery. I remember because my family knew the pilot (Steve Lindsey) and got to go see the launch. And it was on my birthday!!

John Glenn went up again sometime recently. I suppose that makes up for them not sending him up twice long ago.
