How do you record a VoIP chat session?

I have some equipment (microphone, headset, IM account) but I want to know if there's any special software required for the actual recording, and if so how does that work?

I am not aware of there being any way of recording the audio in the Voip session.
What I do to record audio is use a free, but very powerful audio recording and editing suite- audacity. Just hit record when you start and it should record the whole conversation
