i am writing an essay, the prompt is that empathy, or walkin in another's shoes eradicates prejudice. for the intro paragraph, i need to relate Harper Lees life and experiences or the cultural stuff goin on in the 1930s that lead her to put in the motif that empathy eradiactes prejudice so can u plz help me out

I've read that she was inspired by the Scottsboro trials, so you'll wantr to look those up. Also, you need to considert hat thius was written just a few years after the Montgomery bus boycott and Brown vs. board of education - a time whn racial tensions were very high. This book intended to point out prejudice in the current society by placing it a few years ago so that it wouldn't be such a blatant attack on the current systems.

Hi, you may want to consult Charles Shields's biography of Harper Lee, called "Mockingbird" which was just published this year. It's a wonderful account of her life and would help you with your essay. Your teacher will also be impressed that you sought an outside source. Good luck!
