I have been playing for 4 years, so I ain't new. I want to try a new genre.
BTW: I know my pentatonic scales, chords diagrams, basic theory, and can read tab proficiently.

I taught myself by listening to Dick Dale who is the king and founder of the surf guitar. Give him a try if you have not already.

guitar is guitar. learn to play the guitar. if you learn to play the guitar, then whatever style you choose should be easy for you to listen to and pick up. Practice, practice, practice.
