this is the cellular respiration lab for AP Biology. can someone please anser this.
another question is that in the cellular respiration activity you are investigating both the effect of germination versus nongermination and warm temperature versus cold temperature on respiration rate. Identify 2 hypotheses being tested in this activity.

In cellular respiration, you are studying the utilization of oxygen by the cells and thereby studying their rates of metabolism. Metabolism rate is the amount of energy that is begin consumed by an organism and can be evaluated similarly by three methods, the amount of oxygen being consumed, the amount of carbon dioxide being released, or the amount of heat being generated. Since metabolism is a rate (i.e. an amount over time), the amount of oxygen used over time will vary based on the metabolic rate of the organism. The longer the period of time, the greater the O2 consumption. The faster the metabolic rate, the greater the O2 consumption.

When you study the metabolic rate (i.e. O2 consumption) during germination vs. nongermination and during warm vs cold, you are determining how each of these activities affect metabolism.

Hypothesis 1: metabolism is increased during germination which is a very active state in the life of a plant.

Hypothesis 2: metabolism is increased at warmer temperatures as cold temperatures should slow down the rate of metabolism.

Now these are just hypotheses that must be tested. Though they sound logically, life isn't always so. And if you find that the hypothesis is not supported by experimental data, then you have disproven it and will need to formulate a new hypothesis to explain your findings... ah the this is the nature of science. Let the fun begin! :)
