Because we're human! It's normal to have some form of prejudice. For some it's skin color. For others it's class. For yet others it's $$. Sometimes, it's even clans or cliques.
It's human nature.

Living in circumstances they cannot control or being forced to associate with people their parents or friends hate can cause all sorts of apparent racism. Never having personally got to know on a one on one situation a race they hate. If a situation arose where that racist could spend time with a person with no outside influences, in other words, no one else around, then they would soon learn people are the same but education and whom we learn from are not.
Without knowing your personal circumstances I can only offer the following. The word racism is often misinterpreted for discrimination. While I don't doubt racism is alive and kicking, many people discriminate against others based on their personal preferences. Eg if they were a racist it is highly unlikely they could tolerate talking to, or being able to spend any more than a bare minium of time with the race they hate, they would also be very insulting if they were in a position of power or in a group of like minded. If they were discriminating then they could operate a normal association with the person they disliked, but would show very little interest in socializing. We all discriminate against each other for many reasons and quite often generalise by telling ourselves that race are all the same.
Good luck. I'm white from a mainly white but mixed race country and many years ago moved to another mainly white mixed race country and the racist (discriminating) comments from the whites only still keep coming after 30 years. I love the country I moved to, I just don't like all the people in it.

It is such a prevalent part of US history no matter whether you are for it or against it. Everything about racism is centered on power, money, and control. As long as those things exist on the high levels they do, racism will always exist. And it still exists even in this day and time...

I belive that we are brought up learning the prejusicist of our family's. It's almost like the religion that we are raised. It's then up to us as adults to decided if thats how we want to belive or have our children belive. If we change it in our home then our kids won't know any difference because they'll have not been raised hearing the racist remarks and names that we've heard growing up. It all starts at home!
I also belive that the media and the T.V. music etc. Play a big role in this problem also.

i dont know, but i think its a shame that in this day and age we have to judge someone by the color instead of the kind of person they are. why do we have to put a tag on everyone .

I believe the media has a lot to do with it. They are constantly reporting with bias. They also have a tendancy to be stereotypical.
