I understand that there are a lot of people out there that take advantage of the system, I am not one of those people. I lived in housing for about 3 years, then, got out, and bought a house on my own, when I found that I was not able to keep up on the bills by myself, I went ahead and sold the house, for $10,000.00 more than what I paid for it, by the time the realestate agent got her cut and I paid for the closing costs and taxes of chourse, I only ended up with $1,700.00 in my pocket. Now I am being told that I am not eligable for public housing again because, I waited 6 months to pay off the balance that I had owed them, which was my last months rent, which I did not pay right away because I needed it for the down payment on the house I bought. At the time when I bought I had a good paying job, but the company I worked for sold out and I lost my job, and now, the only job I can seem to find is a minimum wage job, and there is no way that I could possibly afford anything other?

The system doesn't work for most people. Working single mothers have it exceedingly hard. Do whatever you have to do to survive. I wish you lots of luck.

The government system is such that it takes about 4 years to get into the housing part and once in your need to stay .If you leave they consider it something you did not want and go on to the next person. Buying a house and selling it etc. is looked upon as haivng money and the government does not subsidize people who have money. You have lost you chance now and unfortunately, you must take in a room-mate , double up with friends, live in a 2 bedroom basement apt or find a better way to make money. It is not that you are a Single Mom that they are against .It is that you have not appreciated what they gave you and left so now you will have amore difficult time in returning to subsidized housing etc.

The government set the system up years ago to prevent abuse and misuse. Unfortunately, they haven't adjusted income eligibility for welfare, housing assistance, etc in years. I have been there done that. It's almost as if you get punished for working and trying to make ends meet. The best advice I could give for you is to go to college and get a degree. I know, i know, it sucks to do. But, if you pick a career that is easy to get a job in (such as nursing, technology, computers, etc) it'll make it easier. Good luck and I hope you find a job you enjoy and that pays the bills at the same time.

You are right, there is a spend down! Go to the local or City Office!

Must be nice that Sachs at Wall Street is giving each of it's employees a $623,000 bonus, and much of the taxes you paid is going to go for a war that just made 500 people Millionaires! Don't worry about taking advantage of the system! All you need to do is go to the nearest gas station to find some of the bigger ones!

The system is not always a good system. *** Here's my thought. (Even though it's a little off the topic). I've been working in a bank for about 4 years. The bank has strict rules with regards to lending and all those stuff. BELIEVE ME -- if you keep on pushing them, they'd give you what you want. Plus, you don't really have to bend the rules - TRUST ME - *** THEY NEED YOU MORE THAN YOU NEED THEM *** That's one thing that'll never change (in everything).

because our government does not do enough to help single mothers!... i would suggest looking through the internet for places that help single mothers. At this time it looks like the best thing for you to do is find a community place until you can get enough money to find housing.

Good luck.

Did you ever hear anyone say, "Plan for the future." ?
The world does not owe you a living. You apparently made some mistakes. Too bad.
