Try to remove it with your fingers first. If that doesn't work enlist some help, either a doctor or another woman you're REALLY comfortable with.

i can't believe some of the answers people post here!

when you have items such as tampons stuck in your vagina, you never want to leave them there. you are at risk for developing toxic shock syndrome. people always worry that it will get "lost", but please be reassured that there is a "dead end' and it will not go any further. it usually gets stuck in a pocket behind the cervix.

there are several ways you can attempt to remove this. first wash your hands. then the secret is to be as relaxed as you can be. if you tense up, it will be harder to reach. You can either squat and lean back or go into fetal position on your bed. sometimes being in a tub of warm water helps you relax too.

insert 2 fingers into the vagina and feel around till you feel your cervix, which feels like the tip of your nose. when you feel your cervix, reach behind it (towards the buttocks). this is where you will find the lost item and pull it out. if unsuccessful, stop, relax and try again in 30 mins or have your partner help you. if unsuccessful after a second time, contact your gynecologist.

do not be embarrassed. this happens a lot more than you think.

Make sure that if you can't get it out to go to the gynecologist. You can develop a NASTY infection or TSS if it not taken out. The infection causes horrible discharge that smells terrible. Even if it has only been in for a day or two the gyno will probably put you on antibiotics. Just to make sure you were not developing an infection. Trust me we take stuck tampons in all the time and it is not pleasant. It is one of the smelliest things to take out. But it is one of the most important things to make sure you go to the doctor to have removed if you can't get it out. We see this more than you think.

Goodluck!

The tampon doesn't go in far, so as awful as it sounds stick you fingers in and pull it out. If you can't do it. then a trip to a clinic, hospital or Dr. is needed. Tampons that are left in too long can cause toxic poisoning. I don't know how old you are, but you can ask your mum to help you get it out also. A little embarrassing maybe, but it has to come out. And it probably won't come out on it's own. Whatever you do don't insert anything to pull it out. Like tweezers, pliers etc.

I had that happen twice. My partner and I tried to get it out, but couldn't. I had to go to the emergency room. They didn't laugh at me or anything. The doctor said I did the right thing because I could of got a really bad infection and died. I had to take antibiotic pills, for a week or so, but that was it.
If you can't get it out, right away. Go to the emergency room.

1. You could go digging but I would go to the hospital so you can lodge a lawsuit towards the tampon company for putting your life in danger (toxic shock syndrome).

2. switch to pads or natural sponges instead of cotton tampons

This does not happen very often, but if it does. Make sure your fingers are clean and try to dig it out yourself, it shouldn't be that hard. But if you can't, then see a doctor right away. Because this is dangerous and could cause infection.

you can try to get it out yourself. If you are having trouble, go to the gyno.
