I was never enrolled in dance from a young age. Now I started ballet lessons last summer, but my mom's too busy to drive me to another studio. So I take ballet every time I go to California on vacation--my aunt lives there. I'm going there again for Christmas, but I'm afraid that I'll lose my flexibility because I haven't conditioned my body enough. And with schoolwork and everything, I can't fit any good stretching in. Do you have any ideas on quick conditioning that really works? Happy Holidays everyone! *<({=

(that was supposed to be a Christmas tree people)

I like the Christmas tree :)

It's good to think about your stretching to at least stay limber. You don't have to practice for hours like your lessons, but only about 10 minutes a day or even every other day does fine. Practice your warm ups, do the splits, practice with a barre if you have one installed at home. It is a good idea to have one installed, but even if you don't that's fine too! Just have something to lean up against or to prop your foot up. If you are en pointe, practice your releves, stretch your arch.

Good luck, Happy Holidays!

The first thing I would do is to check my schedule and try to find time to practice. Even if only for ten minutes at two in the morning, the important thing is to keep practicing and working hard. I would also reccomend checking out books with more information about ballet, like illustrations of the steps, etc, and practice from there. Don't strain yourself, because that most likely will result in injury. There really aren;t any 'fast ways' to do anything (unless you want temporary results that will harm you more than help). Ask friends in ballet for advice as well. If you keep working hard, and you're really committed, you'll be willilng to do this. Schoolwork is important, but even if you have to practice at two in the morning and this really means a lot to you, best of luck and enjoy ballet.
By the way, awesome Christmas tree.

Something I used to do: since all the stretches you need to do for ballet require sustained stretching, I used to do my homework on the floor. It's easy to read and stretch at the same time if you put the book wherever you can see it while doing the stretch and just stay there for a while.

I like "NYC ballet workout". You can buy this video and do the exersises every day if you have a TV and a VCR.
