I've been on birth control for about a year and a half. (I was on Nor-Q-D first, and have been on Loestrin for about 2 months) I didn't start my new cycle of Loestrin this month. Should you wait a few months before getting pregnant after being on birth control? If not, do you have a good chance of conceiving quickly? Any information you all have would be great. Thanks!

There is SO much bad information on Yahoo! Answers!

First of all, since you can get pregnant WHILE you're taking the pill if you miss a few or even don't take them at the same time every day, you don't have to worry that the hormones are somehow hanging around in your system months later. The pill only works to prevent pregnancy if it's taken every day.

Doctors suggest that you wait a few months after quitting the pill before trying to get pregnant. But that's mostly because it makes dating your pregnancy easier. It's not because they're worried about birth defects or anything.

I was on the pill for 12 years before my first pregnancy. And I got pregnant my first month off.

Then I nursed my daughter for a year (took minipills), and went back on the regular pill when she was weaned. A few months later, I quit and immediately got pregnant again.

People blame the pill for their infertility, or because they don't get pregnant right away after taking it, but the truth is that the pill, with its perfect artificial cycle, can mask preexisting fertility issues or irregularities in your menstrual cycle. Maybe you aren't a perfect 28-day woman. Maybe you're a 26-day or a 32-day woman. Maybe you don't ovulate regularly, or you are incorrectly predicting ovulation. Maybe your whole cycle is irregular. And, for some women, it might take some time to get regular (if they ever do) after taking the pill, making it tough to time things and get pregnant.

But it's not because the pill is still in your system.

Good luck.

I think u r suppose 2 wait atleast 3 months before getting pregant after taking bc. I took it for over 3 yrs. and I am still trying to get preg. I stopped taking it about 2 and a half yrs. ago. I think you can after 3 months, to give the bc that was already in your system time to leave. It may depend on what type you took as well. Good luck, and best wishes!

Usually more ideal to be off the birth control pill for 3 months before conceiving!

Did you want to get pregnant? If you are not up to date with your birth control you will defiantly be risking getting pregnant, If you wanted to get pregnant I would wait about 2 or 3 months just in case, You wouldn't want any birth defects.

We starting taking prenatal vitamins instead of bc pills for one month before trying to conceive, and scored on the first try. Good luck!

you don't have to wait to get pregnant but your chances of conceiving aren't as good for the first month
