Why does everybody seem to listen to the worst rap music around? Why aren't the likes of Crown City Rockers, Lyrics Born, Blackalicious, the Roots, Del, Foreign Legion etc. selling millions of albums?

I respect everybody's taste, I just wonder why super talented musicians seem to always be ignored... it's weird...

I'm a child of Hip/Hop - grew up on it. But now a lot of Hip/Hop has really gotten corny, silly and just plain mindless - nothing is original.

I call it microwave or fastfood hits - a producer goes in the studio, with an artist, and a nice beat and cranks out a hit in a few minutes; the only trouble is that the hit sounds just like every other song, the artist is only average, and the lyrics are meaningless; and just like fast food or microwave goodies its good at first bite but its not filling or satisfying and 5 minutes later you want more.

Its o.k. to make music to move your feet too, but add some substance to your message!

Tupac had plently of party music, but he also had "Dear Momma" "Brenda's Got a Baby" & "Keep Your Head Up"

It's the same way with every type of music. Take jazz for instance, everybody loves Kenny G and Manhattan Transfer. Well they both suck. Meanwhile people don't know Gene Ammons or Dexter Gordon who are both immensely talented. Why has De La Soul always been ignored while crap like DMX and lil JOn hit it big. Same thing with Modest Mouse. They've been awesome for 10 yrs and people are just starting to get it.

What you may describe as talent may not be the same as the next person. Yes, you may have very valid points as to why you call certain artists talented and others not talented, but everyone has different tastes depending on how they were raised, what's important/influential in their life, what they can relate to best, etc.

Because the smart hip hop is too challenging for the masses & they're too lazy to try to get it.

Exact same thing w/ prog rock.

I've never heard of most of those people/groups, so it may be the way their record companies promote them. If you're not exposed to it you can't appreciate it.
