I'm going to St. Louis this winter, (I'm from Hawaii) how would I dress in 17 degree weather? Layers-wise.

I just wear jeans and a sweater with a nice big goose feather coat and top it off with a beanie and some gloves and you're good to go. No need to layer uncontrollably, it's uncomfortable if you go anywhere. It probably won't be 17 degrees with the way the weather has been, we've only had 1 week of really cold weather out of 3, the other 2 weeks were full of 60 and 70 degre temperatures. Enjoy your trip!

Unless you're going to be spending a lot of time walking around outdoors, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Running from the house to the car doesn't really require much layering. You certainly don't want to put on long underwear and then spend the day inside at a museum, mall, etc.

Jeans, shirt, sweater (fleece or wool), reasonably warm winter coat, that's all you really need. If you don't have gloves keep your hands in your pockets. A hat that covers your ears would be nice. If you're going to visit someone they can probably lend you gloves and even coats.

BTW, if you really are going to be outside and you're going to be layering up, cotton fabric is the worst thing you can layer with. Jeans are a terrible choice in cold and snow, too, but just fine for parking lot wear.

I would advice you to buy a coat there and this is why: it was 0 last week and it will be 60 tomorrow. The day before we got 4 inches of ice it was 70...Look at the weather channel and then go for it and wait a minute and the weather WILL change. I realize you will freeze if it is 60 so anything you wear will not do BUT coats Will be cheaper here than Hawaii.

Depending on how long you come you might luck out and have a warm stay.

I would suggest waiting till you come to Missouri to buy then you could go to some of the Cheaper Store to get what you might need. There are plenty of Walmart's, Target's Kmart etc to buy winter clothes or for that matter the even if your a High End buyer there are lots of Malls to look for Cloths maybe even better than what you could buy in Hawaii...

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year's!!!

I would definitely layer cotton type fabrics that are breatheable and loose. For instance, a turtleneck with a sweatshirt over it, with a warm jacket and scarf if needed. Gloves and thick pants are important too. The best answer would be to wear a hat as well, but it depends on if you care about messing up your hair.

Forget about layers. Get yourself a good down parka and you'll be all set.

mm kay....here it goes......tanktop, long seleved tee, sweater, then a big coat, mittens, hat, and a scarf. then for my bottom half, shorts, leggings, then warm comfy pants. then big boots. i would also braid my hair so when it gets windy my hair doesnt fly all over, plus it uassually looks good when wearing a cute beeiny. (hat)
