if you beat them you will go to jail. If you are in public there is nothing you can do to stop someone from taking your picture

They can "take" all the pictures they want. But they can't use them without your permission. The legal loophole is this - 'taking' a picture is not an invasion of your rights, privacy, or anything else. For all you know, they could be pointing a camera at you. You don't know for a fact that they actually took a picture. What gets legally tricky then is what happens if and when it becomes a photograph. And by the way, if you "beat their - - - , you will have just committed felony assault and battery. And that will get you arrested, in jail, a record, and maybe even a civil judgement. So you decide, are you really that angry someone took your picture that you are going to risk jail to get the picture back? And no, you can't stop someone from doing this. Geez, what is the big deal anyway?

The copyright to photographs belongs to the person who took them (Except under certain limited circumstances) Technically, therefore, the principal is committing a violation of copyright law by copying them. However, there are other issues. If the pictures show illegal acts (For example a minor drinking alcohol), or are illegal in themselves (e.g. photos of persons under 18 that could be considered erotic) then in most States the principal, as a "mandated reporter", is obliged by law to report them. Merely "having a MySpace" isn't grounds for expulsion - unless you're at a private school that has a ban on MySpace in its rules - so there must be more than just that to this story. MySpace rule #1....... NEVER put anything on your MySpace that you wouldn't be perfectly happy looking at with your parents and all future employers. Even after you've taken something off your MySpace page cached versions of the page as it 'was' float around the net for years. Richard

if you are in a public place, anyone can take your photo. i had heard once (but don't have the data to back it up) that on average, you are photographed 8 times a day. think about it, security cameras, sidewalk cameras, at the bank, at the grocery store, in elevators, etc.

my photography teacher, (he was a rude man, actually) made it very clear to all of his students that if it is just for personal use, you have every right to photograph someone in a public situation.

now, it all depends on what they use it for. if they're just going to keep it on their camera or computer to show people, then they can't get in trouble. if they publish it somewhere or use it on a website, then that is illegal.

also, it would be illegal if there was any nudity involved without your consent.

sorry :(

It depends on the state and local laws. In most places if you are in a public place you are fair game to be photographed. You have to be compensated and give your permission if the picture is going to be used for profit.

It's not illegal to take pictues of people, although you might be able to sue for invasion of privacy, although you would probably lose. That's how all the tabloid photographers get away with it.

I think it depends on if you're at a public place or if it's a public event or something like that.

for example, Michael Moore videotaped GM events and used video tape that was public domain for "Roger and Me". People tried to sue him, but they couldn't because they were public domain events, or something like that

It's not illegal. Look at your high school year book and see how many candid camera shots are in there. If you don't like it, you should ask the people doing it to please stop.

As long as you are in a PUBLIC place, it is not illegal.

If you were in your house, on the other hand, it would be illegal.
