First off, don't call Asian people "yellow". Society hasn't evolved to the point that that would be acceptable. Second, the earliest Japanese anime creators probably didn't have much interaction with African-Americans if any at all and were only familiar with whites and their physical characteristics from their overseas trade with America and Europe or their wars with America and Europe. Besides, unless it is explicitly stated, anime characters don't usually have a specific ethnicity. How many people of any ethnicity have you seen with naturally green, blue, or purple hair?

I had a feeling that i see a snap back response onf the "yellow" issue. And i agree. Your question reads out a tad racist.
But to answer you this. Finally there's going to be a black main character as the hero. The show is called Afro Samurai. And not only that the lead hero is black. But this anime will be shown both in dubbed and in it's original japanese form at the same time. I mean, it'll be both shown on Spike TV over in the states and on Japanese TVs at the same time. You'll most likely hear about it pretty soon on Spike TV.

There are anime/manga with black lead characters in positive roles. Check out Bobobobo-Bobobo, Tokyo Tribes, Nadia Secret of the Blue Water, and Yoruichi from Bleach. Enjoy!

1. Which one do you prefer: 1.1. male or female? >> Male 1.2. hero or villain? >> Villain 1.3. strong or weak? >> Strong 1.4. clever or stupid? >> Clever 2. Who is your favorite character: 2.1. male/female? Why? >> Obviously it depends, but usually I prefer males because I'm a guy and can relate to them better. 2.2. hero/villain? Why? >> Nothing against heroes, but when the main character is a villain or an antihero, the plot's more interesting. It's also kinda more realistic in the sense that no one does good all the time. Usually shows that focus on the hero have an overwhelming sense of justice and won't do anything bad. 3. Which character types makes anime better: 3.1. protagonists or antagonists? Why? >> Well, every show has both. The protagonist is the main character and the antagonist is the one who opposes the protagonist. They don't imply good or evil. Ie. In Death Note, Light is the protagonist and L is the antagonist, even though Light is bad and L is good. 3.2. yandere or tsundere? Why? >> Tough choice because they both bring a lot to the table, but I'll go with Tsundere 4. If you could: 4.1. meet one anime character, what would you meet? >> C.C. from Code Geass. She's attractive, awesome, and I'd try and get a geass out of her. 4.2. pick two anime characters that died to bring back to life, what would you choose? >> SPOILERS 4.3. be any character, who you would like to be? >> Ash Ketchum. He travels the world with his friends, trains Pokemon, doesn't worry about money, doesn't have school, etc. He's living the dream. 5. In your opinion, who is the most popular anime character: 5.1. male? >> Lelouch from Code Geass. He won most popular character a bunch of years in a row and is very recognizable. 5.2. female? >> I'll say Hurushi Suzumyia 6. Which one character is better 6.1. hero: Naruto, L or Ichigo? >> L. No competition. 6.2. villain: Light, Lelouch or Sasuke? >> Lelouch, close call between Lelouch and Light, but I like Lelouch a little more. I'm a fan of Sasuke too, but not as much as Light / Lelouch. 6.3. yandere: Gasai Yuno, Kotonoha Katsura or Rena Ryuugu? >> Gasai Yuno. She's out of her tree. 6.4. tsundere: Aria Holmes Kanzaki, Kurisu Makise or Haruhi Suzumiya? >> Kurisu Makise 7. Who is better anime or cartoon characters? Why? >> I like anime more because of the variety. 8. Try to identify what are these anime characters: Pic 1 (1) Seishin ~ Shiki (3) Sanji ~ One Piece (4) Jin ~ Samurai Champoo (5) Kurou ~ Kurozuka (8) Yakumo ~ Psychic Detective Yakumo (11) Shion ~ No. 6 (14) Kaito ~ Ano Natsu de Matteru (16) Natsuno ~ Shiki (17) Xerxes ~ Pandora Hearts (18) Gai ~ Guilty Crown (19) Ichigo ~ Bleach (24) Ganta ~ Deadman Wonderland (25) Reiji / Zwei ~ Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom Pic 2 (1) Re-L ~ Ergo Proxy (3) Haruka ~ Psychic Detective Yakumo (4) Megumi ~ Shiki (5) Misaki ~ Maid-sama (6) Noloty ~Armed Librarians: The Book of Bantorra (7) Kurisu ~ Steins;Gate (8) Yuuko ~ Kamisama no Memochou (9) Chihaya ~ Chihayafuru (10) Mio ~ Ano Natsu de Matteru (11) Koko ~ Jormungand (12) Hitagi ~ Bakemonogatari (15) Mei ~ Another (16) CC ~ Code Geass (17) Suou ~ Darker than Black 2 (18) Saya ~ Blood+ (22) Canaan ~ Canaan (25) Saeko ~ Highschool of the Dead

That is a very good question. The reason is because of American Racism. Plus the animators don't have much interaction with African Americans. They use what they see on the news and old movies as reference.
If they can show white characters in anime with no problem, then the same should apply to black characters. That is one of the reasons I don't look at much anime.

I don't know. That bothers me too. And whenever there's a black character on any of the shows, the character is drawn almost like a black face caricature with really dark skin and orange lips.

Does everything have to be about racism?? Fine, so the whites bastardized you black people before. You want to seek retribution? Fine! Go settle it with them! But Asians are in no way obligated to politically pet your ego.
This has nothing to do with American racism. Mcneill_35, don't be so conceited as to think all of your country's social problems, racial discrimination or anything else, should be a Japanese or anywhere else's problem. It's not.
By the way, Basti's right. Most anime, unless specifically stated or live in Japan, aren't specified in ethnicity. And really, how many black people (by this I'm assuming people of African descent) make up the Japanese population? Probably as little as we're (Asians) cast in your TV shows.
P.S., I don't mean to offend you, especially if you're merely asking this question without political motive. I just couldn't stand the guy above me.

I don't see why not.. most of the funny sitcoms where an african american(or a family) don't even have an asian character in the entire show.
I don't see the nerdy asian in prince of Bel ' air.. or Family Matters.. or Good times.
