eaisest things are:

Dump your cache (goto internet explorer, click tools, Internet Options, and delete temp files.)
Defrag your hard drive
run a san for spyware/adware (if found get rid of it)

If you dont mind spending a little money buy more RAM

If this doesnt do the job, you need to scan for virus/trojans.
But general maintenance will keep a system running good.

If you want the best thing without spending money ....

Back-up your files, and re-install your Operating System
this will make it virtually brand new, and fast as possible.

There are a few things you can try:

1. Get rid of any extra files, programs, etc. on your computer that you never use. They're taking up extra space and slowing you down.

2. Run a good anti-malware program regularly to get rid of any spyware/adware you may have picked up. (I like Trendmicro's free HouseCall program and Lavasoft's Ad-Aware)

3. Defrag your computer periodically (at least once a month) and keep as few things in your Explorer Temporary Internet file as possible.

4. Keep your recycle bin empty.

5. Click start>run, type msconfig >ok>StartUp....Uncheck anything you don't need to have running from the moment you come online -- too many programs running in the background needlessly will really slow you down.

Hope this helps.

Use spybot search & destroy to get rid of any spyware that has built up. It's free to download and very simple to use. Also make sure you don't have to many programs running in the background when you start up your computer. Go to Start>Run and then type in msconfig. That will bring up your System Configuration Utility. Click on the startup button and will bring up a list of every program that starts up when you power on your computer. Obviously most of them are needed, so only focus on the ones that you notice and you know you do not have to have running all of the time. Just uncheck those boxes and confirm and you will be asked prompted to boot up in safe mode if you so choose. If you are not 100% sure that you are safe with selections, then it would be good to do that first anyway. Hope that helps

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

simplest way is to buy more memory(ram) . the more patches you have from you know who and the more applications(Anti virus, spyware detection, firewall, ect) the more memory needed to keep all of them running at a good speed.

your pc probably came with 512 ,I would say go get 1gb or more should get your pcs little hamsters running swiftly again.
If your not familiar with what ram go to the store you bought it(maybe bring pc with you) they find the memory and probably for a small fee the'll install the memory for you. :)

hope this helps ;)

Are you taking the time to clean up your add/remove programs that you no longer are using? Are you running your anti-virus program on a regular basic? Are you cleaning up your hard drive? You can download a free program called 'Speed It Up'. It works great. There is another one that I like, it is also free for thirty days 'registry mechanic'.
